This Week in Social is our weekly update on the latest changes and trends happening in the social media world. Today, we look at Pinterest’s new targeting tool, Snapchat’s on-demand geofilters, and finally zoom on Instagram!

Pinterest introduced two new ways to retarget users on Pinterest. With engagement retargeting, you can now effectively target people who have shown interest in your brand by interacting with your Pins in a variety of ways. Pinterest Tag makes it easier to retarget people who have visited your website too.

Instagram adds a zoom option
Finally users on Instagram can zoom in and out of videos and images! Brands have already started using the feature for all sorts of things, from getting to know Iceland better, to scavenger hunts, to taking a closer at KFC chicken nuggets.

Facebook improves Facebook Offers for mobile
Now advertisers can share discounts and promotions on mobile and on Facebook. You can decide how long Offers run, who sees them, where they redeem and more. They’ve also made it easier for people to claim and keep track of their claimed Offers through Facebook, and redeem them across devices or in-store.

Snapchat releases customisable templates for on-demand geofilters
Snapchat is making it easier for users to create on-demand geofilters through the company’s website. It’s a quick, DIY tool that eliminates the need to use image editing softwares to create a geofilter around events. Users simply choose their theme, select the design, customise the text and colours. That’s it!
OUR TAKE
More than half of the people on Pinterest are looking for ideas to shop. This makes it an effective place to target new and existing customers. Pinterest have introduced its first retargeting feature back in June, and now it’s updated so that user engagement will affect retargeting as well. This’ll serve the ads better when users are actively looking, thus more likely to take action.
