MESSENGER’S SPONSORED MESSAGES AVAILABLE TO DEVS – WEEKLY SOCIAL WRAP-UP
Weekly Social Wrap-Up is our update on the most tender, juiciest, leanest cut of news happening in the social media world. Today, we look at sponsored messages on Messenger, new Instagram Stories features, and Snapchat’s Spectacles.
Facebook Messenger opens sponsored messages to all developers
As part of a new update to the platform, Facebook announced that Messenger is getting sponsored messages. This was initially tested about six months earlier among a small group of brands and users, but soon you will be seeing advertisements on the platform – exciting times ahead!
New to Instagram Stories: Boomerang, Mentions and Links
Instagram introduced two new tools to help make Stories even more fun – Boomerang and mentions. Boomerang records and stitches a burst of photos into a mini video that plays forward and backward. You can also tag and mention people in Stories. Mind-blown!
Snapchat’s Spectacles are here – and they’re a whole lot of fun
Snapchat announced earlier this year that they were making a pair of video-recording sunglasses called Spectacles. They were new to the hardware game and going up against the more ambitious wearables like Google Glass. But a limited number of Spectacles went on sale and offered through a yellow pop-up vending machine near the company’s headquarters in Venice, California. Here’s the review for it, and we sure would love to try it in person!
Interestingly, after Facebook announced that Messenger opened sponsored messages to developers, they’ve paused its intention to share data between Messenger and WhatsApp, at the request of the UK’s data-protection watchdog, the ICO of course. Nonetheless, this is going to open up new ways for brands to advertise on Messenger, perhaps more interactive features are coming in the near future? We’re eager to see what else we can do with this.
